The San Diego State Aztecs narrowly escaped the Boise State Broncos in the men’s game last night. After blowing a 17 point lead late in the second half, it looked like they were about to drop two games in a row. But Chase Tapley hit a clutch shot from behind the arc to give the Aztecs a 63-62 victory. Tapley finished with 12 points and 5 assists. James Rahon added 16 points and 5 rebounds. Boise State’s leader was Derrick Marks, who scored 16 points and added 7 assists.

After dropping an important game over the weekend to Air Force, the Aztecs fell out of the Top 25. Winning this game will keep their chances of getting back on the board, as they move to 17-5 and 5-3 in the conference. The Aztecs men’s team is back in action against Fresno State on Saturday night at home.

The Aztecs’ women’s basketball team is streaking as of late. After beating Boise State 64-40 last night, the Lady Aztecs have put together their 7th straight win. Chelsea Hopkins came up big for the Aztecs, scoring 13 points, pulling down six rebounds, racking up seven assists, and adding a career-high five steals. Courtney Clements posted a good line also as she scored 12 points and added 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Brandi Helton led the Broncos with 11 points.

The women’s team is tied with Fresno State for the lead in the Mountain West Conference. They now move to 16-5 and 7-1 in conference play. They’ll get a chance to take total control of the conference as they play Fresno State on Saturday.
