The Padres will hold their first workouts as a full squad today. Some of the big things to look out for as the full team is set to take some practice are the issue of where to put Logan Forsythe and the battle for second base. Forsythe has been asked to make the move from second base to the outfield. The move isn’t a permanent one but one that will make him into a “super utilitiy” guy for the Padres. Forsythe can play second base, shortstop, and third base already. Moving him to the outfield to take some reps makes him the most versatile player on the squad.

Forsythe started working with out outfield coach Dave Roberts to get an early jump on making the move. He reported to camp earlier this week to take some more practice while catchers were taking batting practice at the plate. When the full squad takes to the field for drills, Forysthe is expected to take most of his reps with the infield. His work in the outfield will likely be done on the side and set as a backup plan for him and the Padres.

Keep an eye out for Forsythe along with the up-and-coming Jedd Gyorko and Alexi Armarista as all three will battle for the second base spot throughout camp and the rest of Spring Training.
