NFL Combine 2013: Geno Smith “Class Act”

Listed as the top quarterback coming into the NFL Combine, Geno Smith of West Virginia is nothing short of a class act. He oozes confidence and humility and shows that he’s willing to work on anything and everything that his critics throw at him. Starting off with his interview on Saturday, Smith has been drawing attention from scouts.

Going into drills, Smith continued to impress scouts. He was in the top tier of each category that he participated in. Here were his results:

40-yard dash: 4.59 sec

Vert jump: 33.5 inch

Broad jump: 124.0 inch

While even Smith admits that he is a pocket-passer first, he said being athletic was a plus for the scouts. Analysts raved most about the improvement that Smith has made on his footwork and fundamentals. Smith responded with a smile and then a serious face and told them that fundamentals were something that he took seriously.

Whether or not Smith goes first overall to the Chiefs, he’s confident that he can come in and be a leader from the get-go wherever he ends up. His confidence levels are off the charts, which isn’t uncommon for a prospect at the combine, but he’s backed it up so far on the field. He’s thrown crisp passes, had solid footwork, and showcased his athleticism.

It’ll be fun to watch how the top of the draft plays out come April.
