One of the bigger stories of this off-season was centered around Alex Smith and where he would manage to land. It wasn’t certain that the 49ers would let their former starting quarterback put on a different uniform. But all of those questions were answered today when the 49ers traded Smith to the Chiefs.

The deal hasn’t been officially announced and can’t be until the new league year starts March 12th, according to NFL.com.

Smith started the season as the 49ers starter, and after sitting out due to a concussion, Colin Kaepernick stepped in and neither he nor the 49ers looked back.

For his career, Smith has 14,280 yards, 81 touchdowns and 63 interceptions. He has a career QB rating of 79.1 and a completion percentage of 59.3.

Last season he led the 49ers to the NFC Championship game.

With the Chiefs picking up Smith, it looks like they’ll stray away from another Smith, Geno Smith, in the NFL Draft. Only time will tell how it will play out.
