It was the end of the play and there was still a Charger laid out on the field.  I could tell he was in a lot of pain as he was not moving and he was on his side as though he knew what happened.  The trainers ran out to the field and stayed for a long time.  Finally, he was up and I could see it was Freeney walking to the sideline, very carefully and very slowly.  Oh no.

The news from NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport this morning is that Freeney has suffered a torn quadriceps.  Freeney is a new Charger, coming over from the Colts in May and the outside linebacker is the team leader in hurries and hits.  He is fast and a beast and this injury is the latest in so many that the Bolts have suffered this season.  Freeney was snapped up because Melvin Ingram was out for the season with a torn ACL.

Jarrett Johnson and Larry English will be filling the slot while Freeney heals up, but a torn quad is not a couple week recovery.  The Chargers are headed into week 5 and I would not look for Freeney to be back until the end of the season or maybe even playoffs.  So, I would put him on IR and get Fozzy Whittaker back!
