This is the second time this season, Nick Novak has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the week.

Novak’s earlier Player of the Week award came in a Week 6 victory over the Indianapolis Colts when Novak made four field goals from 31, 33, 34 and 50 yards.

Novak has been Mr.Reliable for the Chargers this season, making 32/35 field-goals on the season. Novak also has been 11-for-11 on attempts of 40-yards or more. Novak currently trails John Carney by two field goals for the record of most field goals made in a season by a Charger.

After Sundays game Phillip Rivers praised Nick Novak on his great season…

“Nick’s an offensive weapon,” he said. “When Nick’s on the field, he scores points. Much like a receiver or running back, seriously, when he’s been on the field, like you said it’s consistently almost every time, when he’s jived out there, we’ve scored points…When you have a kicker that’s valuable like Nick is, it’s a huge weapon for you. Yes, you want to score touchdowns and yes, you want to be aggressive, but there’s a time when it’s touchdown (or) check-down, and let’s make sure we get to three. Let’s give him chance to get to come out here and get to three. He was again clutch today.”
