San Diego State rises to No. 7 in latest Top 25 poll’s

San Diego State Aztecs rose this week to Number Seven in both the Associated Press and Coaches Top 25 poll this week.

San Diego State passed Wisconsin, Iowa State and Oklahoma State to rise to number seven. Now the only teams ahead of the San Diego State Aztecs are Arizona, Syracuse, Michigan St., Villanova, Wichita St. and Florida.

It’s San Diego States highest ranking in the AP poll once again since the 2010-11 season, when the Aztecs were ranked No. 6 entering the NCAA Tournament. The Aztecs are now three spots off their highest ranking in school history, as the Aztecs were ranked No. 4 in the nation at one point during the 34-3 season. In program history the Aztecs are 24-3 all-time as a Top 10 team.

The Aztecs also continue to be the highest ranked team on the west coast, with no other west coast team ranked in the Top 25 poll’s. As UCLA who was 25th in last weeks polls, fell out of the Top 25 this week.

The Aztecs defeated Boise State Wednesday 68-60 and UNLV Saturday 63-52 at home. The Aztecs with the win snapped their three-game losing streak against UNLV and improved to 10-4 in its last 14 games against the Running Rebels.

The Aztecs also improved to 5-0 in Mountain West conference play for the first time since 2011-12. San Diego State now has won 15 straight games, which is the second-longest win streak in program history. The 15-game win streak is the fourth-longest active streak nationally, trailing only Wichita State (19), Arizona (18) and Syracuse (18).

The Aztecs RPI also rose to No. 14 with wins over No. 1 RPI Kansas and No. 15 RPI Creighton, and a loss to No. 3 RPI and No. 1 ranked Arizona.

The Aztecs are now (16-1) on the season and will head to San José State on Wednesday and Utah State Saturday.

The Aztecs were ranked No. 10 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll and No. 11 in the Coaches Top 25 poll last week.
