San Diego, CA- The Seattle Mariners defeated the San Diego Padres 12-1 in game number two of cactus league play. The Padres fall to (0-2) on the spring.

Padres Ace Andrew Cashner was solid in his spring debut today, allowing no runs on one hit, while striking out two in two innings of work. Cashner struggled to begin the game, as he started his outing with an error, a single and a wild pitch, but then settled in and retired the last six batters he faced. Padres long-reliever Tim Stauffer would follow, allowing a solo-homerun to Nick Franklin to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead. Joaquin Benoit would make his Padres debut in the fifth, and pitched a scoreless inning, allowing no runs on one hit with one strikeout. With the Padres trailing 2-1, the game would get away from the Padres in the 6th, as hard throwing prospect Leonel Campos struggled in his spring debut, allowing five runs on five hits in only one inning of work. Padres pitching prospect Joe Wieland who missed all of last season with tommy john surgery, pitched today in the 8th and was a bit rusty, allowing four runs on four hits in only 0.2 inning of work. With three of the four runs, scoring on a three-run home run by the Mariners James Jones.

The Padres scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the third, on a throwing error by Mariners pitcher Ramon Ramirez on a pickoff attempt allowing Ryan Jackson to score.
