Aztecs Split Doubleheader v.s St. Mary’s

San Diego, CA- The San Diego State Aztecs split today’s double header versus the St.Mary Gales.

In game number one the Aztecs crushed the Gales pitching, scoring in five straight innings to start the game and lead 13-2 lead. The Aztecs would tack on a couple of insurance runs the rest of the game as they defeated St.Mary’s 16-6.

Aztec Bubba Derby picked up his first win of the season and improved to (1-0) on the year. Derby was solid on the mound for the Aztecs, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out five in 6 innings of work.

On offense 3B Ty France once again lead the Aztecs on offense going 3-6 with a two-run home-run and two runs scored.

In Game number two the Aztecs offense was held in check as St. Marys’s shutout the Aztecs 2-0.

St. Mary’s starter Jacob Valdez held the Aztecs to no runs on their only three hits of the game, while striking out four in 7 innings of work. The Gales bullpen retired the Aztecs in order to end the game as they defeated the Aztecs 2-0.

San Diego State starter Mark Seyler was also solid on the mound, allowing only one earned on four hits, while striking out five in 9 innings of work. With the loss Seyler fell to (2-1) on the year.

Aztecs are now (8-3) on the season and return to action on Tuesday when it hosts the cross-town rival University of San Diego Toreros for a one game series at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
