San Diego Padres Place Troy Patton on the 15-day DL with left shoulder soreness

San Diego, CA- The San Diego Padres have placed reliever Troy Patton on the disabled list with left shoulder soreness. By placing Troy Patton on the disabled list the Padres made room for Jesse Hahn from Double-A San Antonio. Hahn was dominant today for the San Diego Padres in his second major league start, as he allowed no runs on one hit, three walks and seven strikeouts in six innings of work.

According to Dennis Lin of  UT-San Diego, Patton felt soreness in his left shoulder two or three days ago and began to feel serious pain last night. While Patton didn’t necessarily need to go on the DL , the Padres needed to make room for Jesse Hahn and placing Patton on the Dl allows him to fully recover from his shoulder soreness. Patton pitched an inning in relief Friday night in the San Diego Padres 5-0 loss to the Mets.

Notes:

According to Dennis Lin of  UT-San Diego, Robbie Erlin who has been on the DL since May 22 is undergoing rehab on his sore left elbow and there is currently no timetable on when he will begin throwing again.

Lin also reports that Joe Wieland who is undergoing rehab from a minor clean-up procedure on his elbow in spring training could begin a rehab assignment after the All-Star break.

The Padres on Saturday morning signed two more draft selections in seventh round UNC-Charlotte right-hander Ryan Butler and 13th round UC Santa Barbara infielder Joey Epperson.
