San Diego Padres Joaquin Benoit likely to be dealt

San Diego, CA- According to MLB Daily Dish’s Chris Cotillo there is  “still a good chance” the San Diego Padres will trade reliever Joaquin Benoit before Thursday’s trade deadline.

More from Trade Rumors

After trading all-star closer Huston Street to the Los Angeles Angels earlier this month in a six player deal , it was assumed that the San Diego Padres would retain Joaquin Benoit to be the teams closer next season. Yet with many contenders desperately needing a closer or set-up man at the trade deadline, it may be in the Padres best interest to trade Joaquin Benoit if their offered a good amount of talent in return.

There has been vast interest around the league for Benoit and it would take a significant amount in return for the Padres to trade their best remaining reliever. The Tigers, Pirates and Indians have been reported to have the most interest in Joaquin Benoit. The Tigers were assumed to have the most interest in Joaquin Benoit due to their past relationship as Benoit was a reliever for the Detroit Tigers from 2011-13. The Tigers are likely out of the running for Benoit after they traded the assets needed to acquire Benoit to the Rangers last week for Joakim Soria.
