Chargers-Seahawks: What To Work On

facebooktwitterreddit

San Diego, CA- The San Diego Chargers second preseason game will be in Seattle against the Seahawks. This is an important scouting trip since they will host the Seahawks in the regular season on Sunday, September 14.

More from San Diego Chargers

On offense, the Chargers will focus on their play calling. They plan to be faster and more methodical on drives. If Ryan Matthews can run the ball well then it will open up passes to the middle for Ladarius Green which gives Keenan Allen or Malcolm Floyd an opening. They will also need to focus on their red zone offense. Phillip Rivers will try figure out the go to guy in the red zone.

When the Chargers second unit comes out look for running back and receiver competitions. Branden Oliver and Marion Grice are competing for the final running back spot. Oliver looked great last week so look for him to continue and Grice to respond.

Tevin Reese, Seyi Ajirotutu, and Tevin Reese are all competing for spots. Look for them to make plays through Kellen Clemens. In a scenario where Vincent Brown is not ready to play, it’s possible all 3 of these guys could make the squad.

  • On defense I want to see the front 7 respond to the Seahawks run game. Whether it’s Marshawn Lynch or Christine Michael, they will have a tough job. Watch for Manti Te’o to take charge as a franchise middle linebacker and Jerry Attaochu to work hard as a rookie on the outside.

Hopefully Brandon Flowers plays in this game but it is not a big deal if he misses the game. Shareece Wright is having a great camp so watch for him to establish himself.

The San Diego Chargers will play the Seattle Seahawks on Friday, August 15 at 7 p.m. Pacific.
