San Diego, CA- San Diego Chargers First-round pick cornerback Jason Verrett is expected to make his NFL debut this Sunday vs. San Francisco 49ers, according to UT-San Diego’s Michael Gehlken.
The Chargers selected Jason Verrett with the 25th overall pick in the NFL Draft and signed him to a four-year contract this off-season.
Jason Verrett had 39 tackles, two interceptions, one sack and one forced fumble last season for TCU. He was also named second team All-American, first-team All-Big 12, and co-Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.
Jason Verrett sat out the first two preseason games and has been limited in team’s practices, as he’s been recovering from off-season shoulder surgery. This week Verrett was able to take off the red jersey and fully participate on the field during team drills.
Verrett is excited to take the field for the Chargers as he told Ricky Henne of Chargers.com.
” I’ve been visualizing myself being out there. I definitely enjoy it. It’s a dream come true being out there on that football field. I’m just ready for my shot.”
Yet as we approach the annual week three regular season walk-through game, Chargers fans will be excited to finally see their first round draft pick take the field on Sunday.
Don’t expect to see Jason Verrett line-up agaisnt the 49ers top two receivers, as I believe Brandon Flowers and Shareece Wright will be the top two starting cornerbacks this season with Verrett playing in the nickel corner slot.
