SDSU Men’s Basketball has announced their non-conference schedule. There will be matchups to help build the team but the Aztecs will be tested in some games.

Their season starts with a set of four home games. They will have an exhibition against Point Loma Nazarene on November 7 then their next November games will see Cal State Northridge, Utah, and Cal State Bakersfield. Expect Steve Fisher to move players around as he begins to build the core 9 players.

The Aztecs will head to Hawaii for the EA Sports Maui Invitational on November 24-26. They will play old rival BYU then the winner of Pitt/Chaminade to a final game to be announced. The Maui Invitiational will give the players some road experience. The teams the Aztecs will play are going to be different and can prepare them for Mountain West conference teams.

December begins with University of San Diego coming into Viejas Arena on December 4. SDSU will head up north to the University of Washington on December 7  then back home on December 10 to play Long Beach State. It is always great to see a Mountain West vs. Pac 12 matchup because it can build a west coast rivalry. SDSU always uses Pac 12 games to show the conference what they are missing.

December 17 takes the Aztecs east to the University of Cincinnati then back home to play Ball State, UC Riverside, and San Diego Christian. Their final game will be December 27 then conference play will begin on December 31. Traveling east will prepare the team for air travel especially when they have games like Wyoming.

The non-conference schedule looks great for the Aztecs. The Maui Invitational will be a great opportunity to play diverse opponents. Games like Washington and Cincinnati can test the team on the road. As the season gets closer hopefully we will start to see the beginning of a great Aztec team.
