San Diego, CA- The Chargers couldn’t close out the Cardinals last Monday night, but today they were able to close out the game and knocked off the defending Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks 30-21 in their home opener.

More from San Diego Chargers

Russell Wilson and the Seahawks moved the ball down the field on the Chargers defense to begin the game and drove the ball into San Diego territory, until Dwight Freeney recorded his first sack of the season by sacking Russell Wilson to knock the Seahawks out of field goal range.

Philip Rivers would drive the Chargers down the field into Seahawks territory and Nick Novak would nail a 50-yard field goal to give the Chargers an early 3-0 lead. On the Seahawks next drive Percy Harvin would race past the Chargers secondary for a 51-yard touchdown to give the Seahawks a 7-3 lead……except Harvin never should have scored, as he stepped out of bounds on the play and the replay officials missed the call and allowed Harvin to score.

Rivers would continue to pick apart the Seahawks secondary on their next drive and connetced with Antonio Gates for an eight-yard touchdown to extend their lead to 10-7. On their next drive the Chargers would tack on a 43-yard field goal by Novak to extend their lead to 13-7.

Rivers would make the Seahawks pay for the fumble with a another touchdown pass to Antonio Gates in the end zone to extend their lead to 20-7. The Seahawks wouldn’t go away easily, as Wilson with less than a minute left in the half stormed them down the field for a touchdown to cut the Chargers lead to 20-14 at the half.

Rivers would connect once again with Gates for a one-handed touchdown, his third TD of the game to extend the Chargers lead to 27-14 with a few minutes remaining in the third quarter. Lynch and the Seahawks would once again quickly move the ball down the field and pushed the cut the Chargers lead to 27-21 with a few seconds remaining in the 3rd quarter.

On the Chargers opening drive in the 4th quarter Ryan Mathews would injure his right knee and was carted off the field. The Chargers defense would hold the Seahawks scoreless in the 4th and allow them to knock off the defending champions 30-21.
