San Diego, CA- San Diego Chargers have suffered another huge blow to their offense today as running back Danny Woodhead carted off the field with an ankle injury.

More from San Diego Chargers

Danny Woodhead had 15 rushing attempts for 38 yards and five receptions for 34 yards and no touchdowns on the season. If Danny Woodhead is forced to miss time, it would be a huge blow to the Chargers passing game. Despite having weapons like Keenan Allen and Antonio Gates, Philip Rivers and the Chargers offense rely’s heavily on Danny Woodhead in the passing game. Woodhead in his time with San Diego has brought an element to the passing game that Rivers has missed since Darren Sproles left for the New Orleans Saints.

Danny Woodhead was expected to help Donald Brown carry the running game with Ryan Mathews out four to five weeks, after he suffered a sprained MCL in last week’s victory over the defending Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks. With the Chargers up 27-21 at the start of the 4th quarter, Ryan Mathews fumbled and while attempting to recover the fumble injured his right knee and had to be carted off the field.

Rookies Branden Oliver and Marion Grice will also be expected to heavily contribute to the running game. Undrafted rookie free agent Branden Oliver was impressive in the pre-season with 35 rushes for 161 yards and a touchdown. Oliver will likely assume Danny Woodhead’s role in the Chargers offense.
