NFL Combine 2013: Chargers meet with Lane Johnson

It’s no surprise that Oklahoma tackle Lane Johnson was one of the most athletic tackles of the NFL Combine yesterday. If it wasn’t for Arkansas Pine-Bluff’s tackle Terron Armstead running an official 4.71 40-yard dash, Johnson would’ve undoubtedly been the top story of the offensive line group.

Johnson, a former tight end earlier in his career at Oklahoma, ran a 4.72 40-yard dash, just behind Armstead. He has an overall grade of 86.9 according to NFL.com.  He impressed scouts in every category, being a top performer in the 40-yard dash, the vert jump, the broad jump, and the 20-yard shuttle. Here’s how he fared:

40-yard dash: 4.72 sec

Bench press: 28 reps

Vert jump: 34.0 inch

Broad jump: 118.0 inch

3-cone drill: 7.31 sec

20-yard shuttle: 4.52 sec

It’s been reported that the Chargers have met with Johnson at this weekend’s combine. With top tackles Luke Joeckel and Eric Fisher likely going early in the draft, the Chargers have a chance to pick up Johnson at number 11. Johnson’s stock might rise after his combine, though, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Chargers trade up to get Johnson earlier in the first round. So far, Johnson is the only player that the Chargers have met with at the combine.
