San Diego Toreros have success against Kent State

The San Diego Toreros bounced back this weekend against Kent State.

It took all 9 inning, but behind outfielder AJ Robinson’s walk-off double in the bottom of the 9th, the Toreros were able to pick up their first ever win at Fowler Park, 2-1. Michael Wagner pitched a solid game for USD, allowing 1 run on 6 hits in 7.0 innings of work. His efforts led to a no-decision. USD only recorded 4 hits but were able to pick up the run when it mattered. PJ Conlon was credited with the win after pitching 2.0 innings, giving up no hits and only 1 walk.

Game two was the complete opposite of game one. Dillon Haupt led the Toreros, going 2-for-2 with 2 doubles and 5 RBI’s in the 18-11 victory for USD. Dylan Covey picked up his first win of the season after 5.0 innings of work, allowing 3 unearned runs off of 3 hits. USD picked up 18 runs off of 17 hits. Dillon Checkal and Robinson both picked up 3 hits while Connor Joe and Austin Bailey both added 3 RBI’s each.

In the second game of the double-header, the Toreros fell victim to Kent State, 9-5. Kent State started out strong, scoring 2 runs in the first. The Toreros would never take the lead after that. Shortstop Chris Woolley went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI’s. Max McNab was credited with the loss, giving up 6 runs on 8 hits in just 4.0 innings of work.

In the final game of the series, USD finished on top and they finished strong with a 14-2 victory. USD put up 8 runs on 7 hits in the bottom of the 2nd inning and never looked back. Woolley had another big game, going 3-for-4 with 2 RBI’s. Louie Lechick added 4 RBI’s on 2 hits, as well. Max Homick picked up the win, allowing 1 run on 3 hits in 5.2 innings on the mound.

The Toreros move to 3-4 on the season.

They’ll take on Coastal Carolina on Thursday at 4:00 pm ET (1:00 pm PT) on the road.
