Today marks the start of free agency and also the start of the new league year. Free agency can make a team into a Super Bowl caliber team or it could cause them to be behind schedule for the next several years with the wrong signings.
So for the start of the new season, here’s some key dates to keep in mind:
- March 12th – 4pm – New league year and free agency begins
- April 19th – Restricted free agency signing period begins
- March 12th – June 1st [prior to club tender], July 22nd – First training camp to sign UFA’s
- March 12th – November 12th – Window to sign franchise players
There are some deep classes this year in free agency (just look at the corner backs) and some top guys will be on the move. Teams already have in mind who they want to get but they can’t contact every one of those players at the same time, thus creating the ultimate bidding war in football.
