San Diego,CA- With the San Diego Chargers placing Tight-End John Phillips on injured reserve, the Chargers signed TE Jake Byrne off the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad in a corresponding move.

Byrne will more than likely get an opportunity to play with John Phillips now on injured reserve. Phillips was the main tight end used for blocking in the running game, as Gates and Green are primarily used in passing situations. So expect Byrne to get plenty of playing time in Phillips role Sunday against the Chiefs.

Byrne was on the Chargers practice squad earlier this season before the Houston Texans signed him to its 53-man roster. Byrne appeared in seven games for the Texans and was released by the team on December 13.
