Telesco began the end of the season press conference by thanking the media for their “very fair” coverage of the team and the Charger fans for their “incredible” support.
On the State of the Chargers Telesoco believes that….
"The Chargers are a lot further along this year than this time last year. Things headed in right direction."
On the loss of former Offensive Coordinator Ken Whisenhunt….
"We hate to lose him, knew he’d probably be gone if team had success."
On improvements the team needs heading into next season…..
"Offensively, we would like to “infuse some speed.” Defense must improve on third down, creating turnovers. Needs more pop in the return game."
On evaluating the roster, Dwight Freeney and Donald Butler…..
"“It’s going to take a couple weeks.”He is under contract for 2014. Will monitor injury, plan is to keep him.Chargers will probably restart Donald Butler contract extension talks after the Super Bowl. Hopefully he likes the team’s direction and wants to be here."
On Keenan Allen, Derek Cox, Malcom Floyd, Manti Teo, and D.J Fluker…..
"“That may be the second hardest position” other than QB as rookie. “He really stepped up for us this year.”Cox will get second season with Chargers. Can take time as free agent to make impactFloyd is still in rest and rehab mode. Still plenty of time. “We’ll see where it goes.”“We’re very pleased with his development.” “Great thing is we saw positive steps every week.” Over 50% of team’s snaps. Projects a big jump from him, first to second season. As of now,we like D.J. Fluker best at RT, but “I don’t want to put a limit on D.J. because he might be pissed at me.”"
