San Diego, CA- The No. 6 ranked San Diego State Aztecs defeated Utah State 60-45 Wednesday night at Viejas Arena.
The Aztecs started the game strong on offense going on a 9-0 run to take the lead 13-5 over the Aggies. Matt Shrigley had his best game of the season for the Aztecs and started the game on fire from three, going 3-3 from three point range to lead the Aggies 26-11 midway through the first half. The Aztecs would go on to lead the Aggies 35-22 at the half.
The Aztecs continued to dominate the Aggies in the second half, maintaining a double digit lead throughout the second half on their way to a 60-45 victory over the Aggies. The Aztecs maintained a double digit lead over the Aggies since 10:57 in the first half. The Aggies 45 points was their second lowest point total on the season (their lowest being 42 in a 62-42 loss to UNLV) and the lowest point total the Aztecs have held an opposing offense to since holding McNeese State to 36 back in December. The final score would’ve been much for the Aggies if it wasn’t for their 10-0 run to end the game, after the Aztecs pulled their starters from the game.
Matt Shrigley had his best game of the season, with scoring a career high 15 points on and tying a career high with four 3-pointers. Josh Davis added 12 points and 8 rebounds and Skylar Spencer with 10 points and four blocks for the Aztecs.
The Aztecs improve to (23-2, 12-1 MWC) on the year. With the win the Aztecs are now tied for the third-most conference wins in a single league season with 12, Aztecs also extended their home win streak to 12, which is the eighth-longest in program history.
The Aztecs now head to New Mexico to take on the 2nd place (19-5, 10-2) Lobos on Saturday night. The Aztecs currently leads the Lobos by 1.5 game in the Mountain West.
