Toreros blowout Northern Kentucky 19-3

San Diego, CA- The USD Toreros improved to (3-1) on the season, after defeating Northern Kentucky 19-3 Friday night at Fowler Park.

The Toreros started the game strong on offense, scoring six runs on five hits in the bottom of the first inning. Louie Lechich got the scoring started on a solo home run to right to give the Toreros a 1-0 lead.  Josh Goossen-Brown would extend the lead to 2-0 an RBI single. Jesse Jenner would increase the lead to 3-0 a sacrifice fly to center field. Kyle Holder then broke the game open with a bases-clearing triple give the Toreros a 6-0 lead.

The Toreros would add to their lead in the second, scoring two runs to increase their lead to 8-0. Northern Kentucky would score their only runs of the game in the third, scoring three runs to cut the Toreros lead to 8-3. From that point on though the Toreros would continue to dominate the game on offense, scoring three runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, and two in the eighth on their way to a 19-3 victory.

Louie Lechich led the Toreros offensive explosion, as he went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI’s on the night.

Torero’s ace PJ Conlon (1-0) picked up his first win of the season for the Toreros, after having his season debut cut short last Friday when the game was delayed due to heavy fog. Conlon allowed two unearned runs on three hits in 3 innings of work until the game was delayed. Tonight Conlon was once again solid on the mound, as he allowed one earned run, on five hits, while striking out a career-high nine batters in 7 innings of work.

The Toreros will return to action tomorrow for a double-header, game one is set for 1 pm.
