USD Toreros Sweep Double-Header defetaing Northern Kentucky 12-0

San Diego, CA- The University of San Diego Toreros improved to (5-1) on the season after sweeping the double-header against Northern Kentucky University Saturday night by defeating Northern Kentucky 12-0.

The Toreros scored at least 10 runs for the fourth consecutive games, tying a program record.

The Toreros dominated the game from the start, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead 5-0. Connor Joe for the second straight game started the Toreros scoring attack with a three-run homerun to give the Toreros  a 3-0 lead. Hunter Mercado-Hood would add an RBI single to increase the Toreros lead to 4-0.

The Toreros added a pair of runs in the bottom of the second and two more runs in the fourth inning , three in the sixth inning and one in the seventh.

Conner Joe for the second straight game carried the Toreros on offense, as he went 4-for-4 with a three-home run, a double and five RBI’s. Hunter Mercado-Hood also had a good game at the plate, going 2-4 with two RBI’s. Dual-threat Louie Lechich not only was dominating on the mound, he was also solid at the plate going 3-5 with three runs scored and an RBI.

Lechich (2-0) picked up his second win of the season for the Toreros, as he was dominant on the mound allowing no runs on eight hits, while striking out six in six innings of work.

The Toreros will return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m for the final game of the four game series against Northern Kentucky. The Toreros will be looking for the series sweep.
