USD Toreros Upset No. 22 Gonzaga 69-66

San Diego, CA- The University of San Diego Toreros upset No. 22 ranked Gonzaga 69-66 Saturday night at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. For the Toreros it was their third straight win as they improved to (16-14) on the season and (7-10) in West Coast Conference play.
The Toreros started the game slow on offense as Gonzaga opened up a 10-2 lead to start the game. The Toreros then went on a 17-9 run to tie the game at 19-19 midway through the first half. The Toreros kept the game close to end the half and took their first lead of the game at the halftime buzzer, as Christopher Anderson knocked down a three to end the half and give the Toreros a 36-34 halftime lead.
The Toreros would extend their lead to start the second half going on a 13-4 run to increase their lead to double digits 49-38 over Gonzaga. The Toreros would hold onto their lead throughout the second half and their lead was never in jeopardy until the games final seconds, as a Gonzaga three-pointer cut the Toreros lead to 67-66 with two seconds left. The Toreros though would make their free-throws to put the game away and seal a 69-66 upset win over No. 22 Gonzaga.
Toreros leading scorer Johnny Dee once again lead the team on offense with 16 points and Duda Sanadze was crucial with 15 points off the bench for the Toreros.
For the Toreros the win snaps an 11 game losing streak to Gonzaga and is the 7th Top 25 win is program history. Six of those victories have come under current head-coach Bill Grier.
