The Seattle Mariners defeated the San Diego Padres 7-1 in the teams annual Charity Game to kick-off spring training.

Padres starter Eric Stults (0-1) struggled in his first start of the spring. Stults walked the first batter he faced in the bottom of the first and then allowed a to Robinson Cano to put runners on first and third to start the inning. Both runners would end up scoring on a sacrifice-fly by Logan Morrison and an RBI double by Justin Smoak to give the Mariners a 2-0 lead. Stults would allow another run in the second, as he allowed a lead-off double to Dustin Ackley and then a sacrifice-fly by Mike Zunino to extend the Mariners lead to 3-0. That would be all for Stults as he allowed three runs on three hits and a walk in two innings of work.

Padres Pitching prospect sinker-baller Donn Roach pitched the next two innings for the Padres, allowing no runs on one hit and one walk, while striking out one in two innings of work. Reliever Anthony Carter pitched a scoreless fifth and the score would remain 3-0, until the sixth when Padres Rule-5 draft pick Patrick Schuster made his debut and allowed three runs on four hits in one inning of work. Reliever Tony Sipp followed Schuster and also struggled, allowing one run on two hits in only one inning of work.

The Padres would score their only run in the eighth on an RBI ground-out by Cory Spangenberg to sore Rico Noel and put the Padres on the board 7-1. Blaine Boyer pitched a scoreless eighth and the Padres went 1-2-3 in the 9th to end the game.
