San Diego State Aztecs defeat cross-town rival USD 8-5

San Diego, CA- The San Diego State Aztecs defeated cross-town rival 24th ranked USD Toreros 8-5 Tuesday night at Tony Gwynn Stadium.

The Toreros fall to (8-3) on the season and the Aztecs improve to (9-3) on the season.

The Aztecs would score the games first runs in the bottom of the first inning on a Tim Zeir RBI single to give the Aztecs a 1-0 lead. The Aztecs offense would explode in the bottom of the third inning scoring six runs on a a two-run single by  Ty France 2-run single, a Taylor Adkinson bases-loaded walk, a wild pitch and a 2-run single by Aztecs Andrew Brown to give San Diego State a 7-0 lead over the Toreros.

The Toreros would get on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning, scoring two runs on a Josh Goossen-Brown two-run single to left to cut the Aztecs lead to 7-2.

The Toreros would add another run in the top of the fifth inning on a Ben Wylly RBI single to cut the Aztecs lead to 7-3.

The Toreros would continue to chip away at the Aztecs lead in the  top of the eighth inning scoring two runs to cut the Aztecs lead to 7-5. 

The Aztecs would add an insurance run to put the game away in the bottom of the seventh as the Aztecs upset the 24th ranked Toreros 8-5.

Toreros Ryan Olson suffered his first loss of the season and fell to (0-1) on the year, while Aztecs TJ Kendzora picked up his first win of the season and improved to (1-0) on the year.
