San Diego Padres shutout the White Sox 8-0

San Diego, CA- San Diego Padres shutout the Chicago WhiteSox 8-0 Wednesday afternoon for their second win of the spring in game number 7 of cactus league play.

The Padres fall to (2-4-1) on the spring.

Andrew Cashner was solid in his second start of the spring, allowing no runs on two hits, while striking out three in three innings of work. Andrew Cashner now hasn’t given up an earned run in 170 days. He enters this season with a 16 inning streak without an earned run, the longest in the National League.

The Padres would score the games first run in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Xavier Nady off WhiteSox Ace Chris Sale, to give the Padres a 1-0 lead. The Padres would continue to tee-off on Sale, as Nick Hundley went opposite field for a three-run homerun, his first of the spring to extend the Padres lead to 4-0.

The Padres would extend their lead to 5-0 in the top of the second on a RBI groundout by Will Venable and then 6-0 in the top of the third on a RBI ground-out by Ryan Jackson. In the eighth Catcher/Outfielder Cody Decker would extend the lead to 8-0 on his first hit of the spring, a long two-run home run.

The Padres pitching staff was dominant in this game. Joe Wieland allowed no runs on one hit, while striking-out two in two innings of work. Keyvius Sampson followed with two scoreless innings of his own, while striking out two. Leonel Campos who has struggled to start the spring, was solid today allowing no runs in one inning of work.
