Chargers sign Running Back Donald Brown
By Joel Burdeos
San Diego,CA- The San Diego Chargers tonight have signed former Indianapolis Colts Running Back Donald Brown. The deal according to Pro Football Talk is worth three years $10.5 million dollars with $4 million guaranteed.
Brown rushed for 537 yards and 6 touchdowns on 102 carries. Brown averaged over 4.6 yards per carry. Brown is also a good receiver out of the backfield, with 27 receptions for 214 yards and 2 touchdowns last season for the Colts.
Brown was the Colts best running back last season and will take over the role of backup running back to Ryan Matthews and will allow Danny Woodhead to be used more as a receiving back and instead of over using him as Matthews backup as well. The Chargers needed to add a running back who can run between the tackles and pass block. The addition of Brown gives them that, he will be primarily used running the ball and will lessen the load of Ryan Matthews.
An the length of the deal allows the Chargers to not only have an insurance policy for Matthews next season, but also after next season if the Chargers and Matthews are unable to reach an extension.
