No. 7 San Diego State Aztecs blowout Utah State 73-39 in MWC Quarterfinals

San Diego, CA- No. 7 San Diego State Aztecs dominated the Utah State Aggies 73-39 in the Mountain West Conference Quarterfinals Thursday afternoon at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

The Aztecs dominated the game from the start, holding the Aggies to without a field-goal for the games first five minutes to give the Aztecs an 8-0 lead. The Aggies would eventually make their first field goal of the game, but the Aztecs who started the game slow on offense maintained its lead with a 12-8 run to lead the Aggies 20-8 midway through the first half. The Aztecs ended the half on an 16-7 run to lead the Aggies 36-15 at the half. The Aztecs were excellent on both sides of the ball in the first half shooting a solid 51.7% from the field and holding the Utah State Aggie’s to a staggering 25% shooting percentage. The Aggies only made five field goals in the first half on the Aztecs defense and were 0-5 from three.

The second half didn’t go any better for the Aggies, as the Aztecs continued to dominate from the start. The Aztecs started the half on a 9-1 run to extend their lead over the Aggies to 45-16. The Aztecs would’t ease up as the run eventually grew to a 23-8 run to start the half and put the game away for the Aztecs 59-25. The Aztecs would rest their starters the rest of the way as they finished up a statement making 73-39 win over the Aggies.

The Aztecs will now play the winner of UNLV and Wyoming at 6 p.m. PT Friday in the MWC semifinals.
