San Diego, CA- Marlins Ace Jose Fernandez and the Marlins shutout the Padres 5-0 for their fourth straight loss. The Padres now fall to (1-4) on the early season.

With the game scoreless the Padres were able to load the bases in the Top of the third after walks to Will Venable and Chase Headley with one out.

Unfortunately the Padres struggling offense couldn’t produce, as Seth Smith grounded into a inning ending double play to end the Padres threat.

The Marlins would score the games first runs in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Giancarlo Stanton to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead.

The Marlins would increase their lead to 2-0 on a Derek Dietrich RBI single off Cashner.

Fernandez dominated the Padres tonight as he retired 13 of the final 14 Padres he faced. Fernandez allowed on runs, while striking out eight in 6.2 innings of work.

The Marlins would score three runs off Dale Thayer and Benoit as the Marlins shutout the Padres 5-0.

Padres ace Andrew Cashner who suffered his first loss of the season (0-1) was excellent tonight. Cashner allowed one run, while striking out six in six innings of work.
