Stanton and the Marlins blast the San Diego Padres 8-2

San Diego, CA- The San Diego Padres fall to the Miami Marlins 8-2 for their third straight loss on the season. Padres now fall to (1-3) to begin the season.

The Marlins scored the games first runs in the bottom of the first on a blast by Giancarlo Stanton, a two-run 458-foot home run to give the Marlins a 2-0 lead.

The Marlins would extend their lead to 5-0 in the third on a sacrifice fly by Casey McGehee and a two run double by Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

The Padres would have the opportunity to get back in the game, loading the bases with one one in the top of the fifth on singles by Gyorko, Denorfia and Yasmani Grandal. Unfortunately the Padres would be unable to capitalize as pinch-hitter Tommy Medica popped up and Cabrera grounded out to end the inning.

The Padres would score their only runs of the game in the sixth on an RBI double by Yonder Alonso and an RBI single by Jedd Gyorko to cut the Marlins lead to 7-2.

Eric Stults who fell to (0-1) on the season and struggled today, allowing five runs on seven hits in only four innings of work.
