Andrew Cashner one-hits Tigers in San Diego Padres 6-0 win

San Diego, CA- Andrew Cashner has arrived. Cashner put all of Major League Baseball on notice Friday night that one of the games best young pitchers resides right here in San Diego and his name is Andrew Cashner.
Cashner against arguably the best offense in the Major Leagues, dominated the Tigers Friday night with a career high 11 strikeouts in a one-hit shutout, as the Padres defeated the Tigers 6-0. For Cashner this was his second career one-hit shutout and with the win improved to (1-1) on the season.
Cashner retired 14 straight batters to begin the game before the Tigers Rajai Davis was able to hit to soft single to center field that was just inches out of reach for second baseman Jedd Gyorko‘s diving attempt for the Tigers only hit of the game.
The Padres took the lead early in the bottom of the first on a two-out RBI triple by Jedd Gyorko to score Everth Cabrera and give the Padres a 1-0 lead. Chase Headley would follow with an RBI double to center to score Gyorko and extend the Padres lead to 2-0.
The Padres would add to their lead in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run homerun by Chase Headley, his first of the season to extend the Padres lead to 4-0.
The Padres would extend their lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI ground-out’s by Chris Denorfia and Seth Smith.
Cashner would strike out Miguel Cabrera to end the game as the Padres defeat the Tigers 6-0. With the win the Padres improve to (4-6) on the season.
