San Diego, CA- Eric Stults picks up his 1st win of the season as the San Diego Padres defeat the San Francisco Giants 3-1 saturday night.

Eric Stults improved to (1-2) on the season, allowing only one run on three hits, while striking out two in six innings of work.

The Padres would score the games first run in the bottom of the second, as Seth Smith leadoff the inning with a single and would eventually score on a two-out RBI single by Yonder Alonso to give the Padres a 1-0 lead.

Mike Morse would tie the game for the Giants in the top of the 5th on a solo-home run, his third of the season to tie the game at 1-1.

The game wouldn’t remain tied for long, as the Padres would retake the lead in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI triple by Everth Cabrera, his first triple of the season to score Alexi Amarista and give the Padres a 2-1 lead.

The Padres bullpen would maintain the lead for Stults after he exited in the sixth, as Nick Vincent struck out the side in the seventh and Dale Thayer worked a scoreless eighth.

The Padres would add an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth, as Will Venable doubled to left to begin the inning and would eventually score from third on a suicide squeeze by Chris Denorfia to extend the Padres lead to 3-1

Despite the opportunity for the save, the Padres would bring in reliever Joaquin Benoit instead of closer Huston Street in the ninth. Street labored through 31 pitches last night for his save against the Giants.

Benoit would shut down the Giants in the ninth, striking out Buster Posey to end the game for his first save of the season.

The Padres are now at .500 on the season at (9-9) and are now (7-3) on the 10 game homestand.
