Padres defeat the Giants as Rene Rivera hits his first homerun since 2011

San Diego,CA- Rene Rivera homered for the first time since 2011 and had a career-high RBI’s to lead the the San Diego Padres to a 6-4 comeback win over the San Francisco Giants in game one of the three game series. 

The Padres scored the games first runs n the top of the fourth, as Tommy Medica and Alexi Amarista scored on a two-run double by Rivera to give the Padres a 2-0 lead.

The lead wouldn’t last for long as the Giants would take the lead in the bottom of the fourth, as Angel Pagan scored on an RBI triple by Hunter Pence to cut the Padres lead to 2-1. Then Pence and Brandon Belt would score on a two-run single by Michael Morse to give the Giants a 3-2 lead.

Rene Rivera would give the Padres back the lead for good as Medica and Amarista scored on a three-run homerun by Rivera to give the Padres the lead 5-3. For Rivera his five RBI’s tonight were not only a career high, but the were also his first five RBI’s on the season.

The Giants would cut the Padres lead to one in the bottom of the fifth on a Hicks’ solo shot, but thats as close as the Giants would get as Huston Street would close out the game in the bottom of the 9th for his tenth save of the season to seal the Padres win.

Tyson Ross improved to (3-3) on the season, despite struggling at times tonight allowing four runs on eight hits in 5.1 innings of work.
