Phillies defeat the San Diego Padres 5-2

San Diego,CA- The San Diego Padres continued their offensive struggles as they fell to the Philadelphia Phillies 5-2 in game one of the three game series. Padres have now lost six of their last eight games.
The San Diego Padres scored the games first run in the top of the third on a two out solo-home run by Will Venable, his second of the season to give the Padres a 1-0 lead.
The Phillies would tie the game in the bottom of the fourth as Ben Revere scored on an RBI double by Chase Utley to tie the game at 1-1. BI single tied it at 1.
Marlon Byrd would give the Phillies the lead with a three-run home run to give the Phillies a 4-1 lead.
The Phillies would extend their lead in the sixth as Chase Utley scored on a sacrifice fly by Byrd to extend the Phillies lead to 5-1.
The San Diego Padres would the Phillies lead in the eighth as Carlos Quentin scored on a sacrifice fly by Yonder Alonso to cut the Phillies lead to 5-2.
The San Diego Padres would rally in the top of the ninth as Seth Smith doubled to lead off the inning and then Chase Headley reached on an infield single and Rene Rivera was hit by a pitch to load the bases. The San Diego Padres would be unable to take advantage of the opportunity as Tommy Medica grounded out to second to end the game.
Ian Kennedy fell to (5-7) on the season after allowing five runs on seven hits with three strikeouts in seven innings of work.
