San Diego, CA- After interviewing eight different candidates the past month the San Diego Padres have named their four finalists for their general manager position, according to Scott Miller of Bleacher Report and Fox Sports San Diego.

According to Miller the San Diego Padres have informed Rangers assistant GM A.J. Preller, MLB Senior VP of Baseball Operations Kim Ng, Yankees assistant GM Billy Eppler and Red Sox assistant GM Mike Hazen that they have will be brought back to San Diego next week for a second round of interviews.

‏The San Diego Padres may once again be looking to the Boston Red Sox for their next general manager, according to ESPN Senior Baseball Analyst & Insider Jim Bowden. Bowden reports that according to his sources Mike Hazen remains the favorite to become the next GM of of the San Diego Padres because of relationship with CEO Mike Dee and potential future ” baseball senior advisor” Kevin Towers.

Yesterday Fox Sports Baseball Insider Ken Rosenthal reported that according to his sources the San Diego Padres are not interested in bringing back former GM Kevin Towers as the team’s new general manager, but would be interested in bringing back Kevin Towers as a senior baseball advisor if he is relieved of his duties as general manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Towers would work with the team’s new general manager.

All four of the finalists would be solid choices to become the Padres next general manager. I believe that Kim Kg is still the best candidate, but A.J. Preller, Billy Eppler and Mike Hazen would also be excellent choices. All three have done excellent jobs with their respective teams scouting and finding the best talent available, as shown by the success of the Rangers, Yankees and Red Sox the past decade.
