More from Trade Rumors

Chris Denorfia has been a fan favorite and a solid player for the Padres the past few seasons.

San Diego Padres signed Chris Denorfia to a minor league contract in 2009 and has been one of the teams few consistent offensive players ever since. Chris Denorfia performed the role of utility outfielder from 2010 – 2011, batting .271 with 9 home runs in 2010 and .277 with 5 home runs in 2011.

Denorfia and Will Venable formed a platoon in right field since 2012 with Chris Denorfia starting against left-handed pitchers. Denorfia batted .293 with 8 home runs. Chris Denorfia had his best season with the Padres in 2013 playing full time due Cameron Maybin missing most of the season to multiple injuries. Denorfia batted .279 with 10 home runs and 47 RBI’s in 473 at-bats.

  • This season Denorfia has not performed up to his career averages, batting only .244 with one home run and 15 RBI’s. Denorfia will be a free-agent this off-season and the Padres aren’t expected to re-sign him. At age 35 the Padres will likely look to go a younger route in right field next season with potentially top prospect Rymer Liriano or a free agent upgrade this off-season, which is why the team is looking to receive something for the veteran outfielder.

Chris Denorfia is a versatile right-handed outfielder, who will provide a contender with solid defense and a solid bat against southpaws as a platoon or reserve outfielder.
