Padres Return Home To Defeat Rockies 4-3
San Diego, CA- The San Diego Padres returned home to Petco Park after a five game road trip to face the Colorado Rockies. The Padres had rookie Rymer Liriano starting in right field and fans were ready to get a glimpse of the young player.
It started off as a pitcher’s duel between the Padres Jesse Hahn and the Rockies Jordan Lyles. The Rockies hitters were able to get 2 hits off of Hahn and the Padres could not get a hit off Lyles.
Yonder Alonso cut a home run to right field in the 4th inning and the Padres struck first at Lyles.
Hahn had allowed runners to get to 1st and 3rd base in the top of the 6th. Corey Dickerson hit a home run that would give the Rockies a 3-1 lead.
Yonder Alonso was able to get on base in the bottom of the 6th and Jedd Gyorko singled to allow Alonso to get to third. Matt Belisle came in to relive Lyles and he walked Yasmani Grandal.
Rymer Liriano hit a sacrifice fly to center and Alonso scored to give Liriano his first career RBI. It gave the Padres a 1 run deficit to fight.
The Padres bullpen shut down the Rockies hitters which gave the Padres hitters an opportunity. It took a pinch hit by Abraham Almonte to get on base then Yangervis Solarte hit a home run to give the Padres the lead and a 3-4 win.
That is 3 wins in a row for the Padres and these young players give us a peek into the future of this franchise. These players will have a chance to build chemistry over August and September which can build something for next year.
The Padres next game will be Tuesday, August 12 against the Colorado Rockies at 7:10 p.m. Odrisamer Despaigne will start for the Padres and Yohan Flande will start for the Rockies.
