Game Preview: New York Jets vs. San Diego Chargers

Offense:

After taking advantage of the Jaguars terrible defense last week, the Chargers will face one of the better defenses in the AFC in the New York Jets this week. The Chargers have struggled to run the ball so far this season, with a NFL-worst 2.4 yards a carry due to injuries to Ryan Matthews, Danny Woodhead and the offensive line. The Chargers will try to establish the running game today with Donald Brown against the best run defense in the NFL. The Jets and their explosive defensive line have limited their opponents to 63.3 rushing yards per game this season.

Philip Rivers will look to attack the Jets weak secondary, as the Jets pass defense has given up nine touchdowns and 228 yards per game passing this season. Expect Keenan Allen, Eddie Royal, Antonio Gates and Malcom Floyd to frustrate the Jets secondary all game today. In order for Rivers to attack the Jets secondary, the offensive line will need to hold up their protection against the Jets pass-rush that lead the NFL with 14 sacks this season.

Defense:

On defense the Chargers will look to expose the Jets struggling passing game. The Jets are only averaging 19.8 points per game and Geno Smith has only passed for more than 200 yards once this season. I expect Eric Weddle, Brandon Flowers and Jason Verrett to frustrate Smith all game and will likely force the Jets to replace Smith with backup quarterback Michael Vick at some point during the game.

Prediction:

Philip Rivers will pick apart the Jets secondary all game, the defense will force Geno Smith to make multiple mistakes and the Chargers will defeat the Jets 35-17.
