San Diego Sockers defeat the Las Vegas Legends 5-4 in overtime

San Diego, CA- The San Diego Sockers began their first season in the Major Arena Soccer League tonight at home and defeated the Las Vegas Legends 5-4 in overtime for their first win of the season.

Eddie Velez opened the scoring with 8:54 left in the first quarter with his first goal of the season, to give the Sockers a 1-0 lead. The Legends would tie the game at 1-1 on a goal by Uzi Tayou to end the 1st quarter.

The Legends would hold the Sockers scoreless in the 2nd quarter and take the lead to end the half on a goal by Ivan Campos, to give the Legends a 2-1 halftime lead.

The Legends would extend their lead to 3-1 midway through the 3rd quarter on a goal by Chino Flores. The Sockers would get on the board to end the 3rd quarter on a goal by Dan Antoniuk to cut the Legends lead to 3-2.

Ivan Campos scored his second goal of the game to begin the 4th quarter, to extend the Legends lead to 4-2. Eddie Velez would follow with his second goal of the night to cut the Legends lead to 4-3 with 7:39 left in the game.

Brian Farber would tie the game for the Sockers midway through the 4th quarter with his first goal of the season. Both teams would hold each other scoreless the rest of the 4th quarter to send the game into overtime.

Kraig Chiles would win the game for the San Diego Sockers in overtime with his first goal of the season, to defeat the Las Vegas Legends 5-4.
