San Diego,CA- The San Diego Padres take on the Arizona Diamondbacks in game number 7 of Cactus League play.

The Padres are currently ( 2-4-1) in Cactus League play.

San Diego, CA- San Diego Padres defeated the San Francisco Giants 7-2 Tuesday afternoon for their first win of the spring in game number five of cactus league play.

The Padres improve to (1-3-1) on the spring.

Josh Johnson in his Padres debut and first start of the spring and was impressive. Johnson retired all six batters he faced in his two innings of work in order, striking out two of them in the process. Johnson threw 22 pitches in his outing and 15 of them for strikes. Johnson was pleasted with his debut after the game telling UT-San Diego’s Dennis Lin,

Tim Stauffer would follow and allow no runs on two hits, while striking out two in two innings of work.  Reliver Joaquin Benoit pitched a scoreless fifth, striking out two of the three batters he retired in order and would be credited with the win to improve to (1-0) on the Spring.

Benoit would be credited with the win because, after being held scoreless the entire game the Padres offense would wake-up in the top of the sixth scoring six runs to take the lead 6-0. The Padres scored their first run on a lead-off home-run by Alexi Amarista his first of the Spring, then followed with an RBI single by Nick Hundley and a two-run single by Yeison Asencio. Tommy Medica would add his first home-run of the spring as the Padres would go on to defeat the Giants 7-2.

Game Notes:

  • Padres Pitching Prospect Joe Ross pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
  • Tommy Medica continued his hot start to spring training going 3-3 with 3 RBI’s.
