San Diego, CA- With the game tied at 3-3 in the top of the 12th Xavier Nady came up clutch with an RBI single to score Jedd Gyorko and give the Padres the win as they held on to defeat the Nationals 4-3 in 12 innings.
Jedd Gyorko singled to center to begin the 12th and then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by Nationals catcher Jose Lobaton, which allowed him to score on Nady’s RBI single.
The Nationals would attempt to rally back off Padres closer Huston Street, as Bryce Harper leadoff the inning with a double to left to get tying run on second with nobody out. Huston Street would hold the Nationals in check though as he struck out Tyler Moore for the first out and then Everth Cabrera would catch a Jose Lobaton lineout to short and catch Bryce Harper off second for a double-play to end the game.
Alex Torres after pitching a scoreless 11th picked up his first win of the season and improved to (1-0) on the season. Huston Street picked up his 8th save of the season.
The Nationals scored the games first run in the bottom of the third as Denard Span scored from third on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Rendon to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead.
The Padres would tie the game in the top of the fourth, as Chris Denorfia scored on an RBI double by Seth Smith to tie the game 1-1.
Yasmani Grandal would give the Padres the lead in the top of the 6th with a two-run double to score Eric Stults and Seth Smith to give the Padres the lead 3-1.
The Nationals would send the game to extra innings after solo-home runs by Danny Espinosa in the sixth and Adam LaRoche in the seventh to tie the game at 3-3.
Eric Stults picked up the no-decision, despite having one of his better starts of the season allowing only two runs on 10 hits in 5.1 innings of work.
