Tanner Roark and the Nationals shutout the Padres

San Diego, CA- Tanner Roark and the Washington Nationals shutout the San Diego Padres 4-0 Saturday afternoon. For Tanner Roark it was his first career shutout.
The Nationals scored the games first runs in the bottom of the first off Padres ace Andrew Cashner, scoring three runs on an RBI single by Adam LaRoche, an RBI double by Ian Desmond and a sacrifice fly by Danny Espinosa to give the Nationals a 3-0 lead.
Roark retired the first 16 Padres batters to begin the game, carrying a perfect game into the sixth until his perfect-game was broken up on a one-out single Rene Rivera.
The Nationals would extend their lead in the bottom of the sixth, as Kevin Frandsen scored on an RBI single by Span to extend their lead to 4-0.
The Padres would attempt to rally back to end the game, as they had runners reach base in the 7th, 8th and 9th, but were unable to bring any of them home.
Roark improved to (2-0) on the season for the Nationals as he allowed no runs on three hits, while striking out eight in 9 shutout innings.
Andrew Cashner fell to (2-3) on the season after allowing four runs on nine hits, while striking out five in six innings of work.
