San Diego Padres fall to the Cardinals again

San Diego, CA- The Padres entered St. Louis this week looking to gain some ground on the National League wild card leading Cardinals. Instead the Padres have fallen back a couple games after losing to the Cardinals for the second straight game 4-2. The Padres have lost back-to-back contests since a five-game winning streak.

Tyson Ross struggled with his control to begin the game as he walked Matt Carpenter, Kolten Wong and Matt Holliday. Carpenter would score on an RBI single by Matt Adams and Wong scored on an RBI ground out to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead.

    The Padres would cut the Cardinals lead to 3-1 in the top of the 5th on a RBI double by Will Venable to score Jace Peterson.

    Oscar Taveras would extend the Cardinals lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the 8th on an RBI single to score Jon Jay.

    The Padres would attempt to rally back in the top of the 9th, as Yasmani Grandal hit a pinch-hit two-out homer off Pat Neshek to cut the Cardinals lead to 4-2. Chris Nelson would follow up with a double to being the tying run to the plate in WillVenable, but Nesheck would strike out Venable to end the game and seal the win for the Cardinals.

    Tyson Ross fell to (11-11) on the season, after allowing three runs on five hits in six innings of work.
