San Diego Padres complete their September callups

San Diego, CA- The San Diego Padres roster has expanded from 25 to 40 this month and here is a recap of the players the Padres have called-up to the big leagues.

The Padres have called-up:
- RHP Joe Wieland from Triple-A El Paso
- LHP Frank Garces from Double-A San Antonio
- RHP R.J. Alvarez from Double-A San Antonio
- C Adam Moore from Triple-A El Paso
- RHP Leonel Campos from Double-A San Antonio
- INF Cory Spangenberg from Double-A San Antonio
- LHP Robbie Erlin from Triple-A El Paso
- RHP Matt Wisler from Triple-A El Paso
Wisler will not be activated or added to the 40-man roster, as he is here to observe and learn from the veteran pitchers. Wisler has also reached his innings limit for the year and will be expected to be the Padres No. 5 starter next season.
Alvarez, Garces and Campos are expected to compete for a spot in the Padres bullpen next season. Alvarez is the most intriguing of the three and has the potential to be the Padres closer of the future.
Wieland will be making his first start for the Padres since 2012 due to Tommy John surgery. Erlin began the season in the Padres rotation, until a sore left elbow landed on the disabled list.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the San Diego Padres have moved Carlos Quentin, Ryan Jackson and Yonder Alonso to the 60-day disabled list. The Padres aslo designated for assignment INF Chris Nelson and LHP Troy Patton.
